First Century Judean Woman
Monday, June 11, 2012
The question posed to me was what a first century Jewish woman would look like.
I figured that she would not be much different than most Orthodox women of today and drew her that way.
While there might be a few differences, I imagine this would not be out of place then either.
A tefach of hair can show when the hair is covered. That's a tiny amount. I added some stray strands just for interest sake.
This is what I do late at night and early into the morning when I cannot sleep because of my back.
She is not finished. I rarely post finished art.
But she is coming along.
I am not good with drawing material and I do some things much better than I do others as far as drawing goes. So even in one drawing I will like one part and dislike another because some things are just more difficult for me than others.
I am not real consistent in doing well in drawing.
It's all about learning and that is where I am-- learning.

She's beautiful in a holy way. Visionaries have said that Mary, mother of Jesus, which was a first-century jewish woman, was the most beautiful person they have ever seen, if you believe of course that those apparitions are true. Only catholics who have faith believe in those apparitions (not all catholics have faith). Your portrait must be close to her perfect holy beauty, if true.

it's a very nice picture, likely close to reality
ReplyDeleteJewish women tended to look like this for much of history
I am happy you like it.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful Annie! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning, Annie! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Channa ... I have been looking at this "First Century Judean Woman" for a few days, but never commented until now. As you already know, I'm a big fan of most everything you do, including giving me consultation when I ask. I suppose this should be in an e-mail but all your friends won't mind if I brag on you a little.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you are modest and humble concerning your God given talent just adds to your appeal ... and you are talented in so many ways.
The drawing/painting of this young girl looks great. It's very soft looking, which may be how you see her in your heart. A lot of what you do comes from your heart. (Denise in Canada) pictured her as Mary, the mother of Jesus from her comments I read. And she does look about the right age ... 14 to 18 or so.
You have always excepted very graciously what I have said in the past, so how do I say this without sounding critical; (I hope I'm not) ... I just wonder if a 1st century woman wouldn't have a little more of a ruff textured look to her skin from the hard conditions of life back then.
Of course, I'm thinking of an older woman, say in her thirties, not a young modest Jewish girl.
I've seen a lot of your work ... and it's always done well.
You have shared about your back trouble before ... this is just to remind you that we are still praying for your back to be free of pain so you can do what you want anytime you want. This is also to let your friends know that you also have Christian believers in the Lord God standing on the words of Isaiah 53:5 for you which says ... "with his stripes we are healed."
Sorry for the long comment. I just wanted to let you know I still care dear one.
Blessings ...
Thanks. I am glad you like what I do.
DeleteI appreciate my Christian readers and thank you for your kind words and wishes.
It is often a surprise to people to know that first century Judea had many very wealthy citizens! The tin trade was owned by Jewish merchants in those days and the commerce between Judea and Cornwall was busy and very prosperous.
I never noticed the fish pond where you can feed the fish before. Is that your design? It's neat! Like you.
ReplyDeleteThe pond was created by a fellow who does templates for Blogger. His name is A. Bowman. He makes great layouts and gadgets like this one too.
